Today we are going to discuss various issues that could arise in your bathroom and ways to fix them. Most people get up in the morning, hop in the shower, brush their teeth, and get on with their day. The problem becomes when you try to do your regular morning routine, and something is off. You then not only need to change your routine, but you will need to take time out of your day to address the issues that have arisen.

Clogs

It is never fun when you are taking a shower and realize you are also taking a bath. There could be a number of things that could cause your pipes to be clogged up. One of the major issues is an accumulation of hair in the drain. There are various products available to pour down the drain to break up the clog. Another option is to use a ‘snake’ to snag the clog and pull it out. Yet another option is to use a plunger to release the clog. It is best when using any of these options to use them in the safest manner. There are several pour clog removers that specifically state do not use the plunger after you have poured the drain cleaner.

Another reason you might have water backing up in your pipes is if your pipes are broke or obstructed by something else.  Depending upon your area, you can actually have tree roots causing your water to back up. It is best to determine the reason for the clog, try some initial options, and then if the clog persists have a professional come over and give their assessment.

Mold/Mildew/Deposits

In a damp space such as the bathroom, mold and mildew are an issue. Proper ventilation works to prevent this, along with using mold and mildew resistant items. These items can include the paint on the walls or the shower curtain. Depending upon whether you have soft or hard water, you can also have deposits develop. These deposits can accumulate on the shower head and restrict the flow of water. There are many products available that can be used to remove such deposits and restore the flow of water to full force.

Fixes

Ways to fix these issues include adding a drain cover to catch the hair and other items before they make it down the drain. To prevent mold/mildew, use mold/mildew resistant items in the bathroom, and allow for proper ventilation.  Products such as a calcium and lime remover or using household vinegar can remove the deposits. Getting a water softener could also be an option.
