While no one would consider telling you to follow a fad when considering a remodel for your bathrooms, there are several trends that have emerged in 2017. These are ideas that people have picked up that have become popular in remodels/redecorating throughout the year. In this post, we will discuss a few we found that most designers/remodelers are talking about.

Three-Dimensional Tile

There is a lot of talk regarding what type of tile to use to redecorate your space. The talk consists of what material to use for the tile, such as, ceramic/porcelain, glass, quarry, or stone; the size of the tile that can be used (to maximize or minimize grout); and how much or little to put down. Another concept that has emerged with tile is the idea of three-dimensional tile. This means instead of having a flat surface, the pattern on the tile sticks out. So, as you run your hands along the tile, you will follow the pattern built into the tile. This type of tile can become a conversation piece in your home. When considering which pattern to choose, think about the rest of the space around the tile, to make sure the patterns don’t clash. Another consideration is how detailed the pattern is from the standpoint of keeping it clean. While it might look nice in the showroom, if it will require more time than you have available to keep it clean, is it really worth the look?

Bold Lighting

Another trend in bathrooms is the idea of bold lighting. This can be shown by having a brightly colored light fixture, an oversized light fixture, many small fixtures, or colored bulbs. You can even mix two or more of those concepts together. The idea is to draw attention to the lighting you are using. While the idea is to be bold, you will need to evaluate your space to make sure it stays bold and does not go into overwhelming. You don’t want to finish placing everything and realize it’s just too much. This can happen when a lighting fixture is chosen that is just too big for the small bathroom. You can also have a light that ends up being too bright for the space. You want to find this out before it is a sleepy Sunday morning and you flick the switch in the bathroom. Any of these changes should be discussed at length before implemented so that you create the look you desire.
