When thinking of making changes to the décor of your space, sometimes it is the little things that can make a difference. If you have non-carpeted floors but want to make a change without making a big change, think about tossing some rugs down. Rugs choices are almost endless regarding size, shape, material, and color scheme. There are many benefits to having a few rugs down on the hard floor.

Create spaces

By putting rugs down on the floor, you can create little zones within a larger room. The rugs will help set off each of the areas where they are placed. This makes it easier for kids to stay within a certain area. All you need to do is to tell them to stay on the carpeted area. Additionally, you can create mini-themes for each area by coordinating the furniture and décor with the rug. This can give you the feeling of having more rooms than you have.

Buffer Sound

Rugs on the floor help to buffer the sound of feet, items falling, kids running, and general foot traffic on the floor. The rug will absorb the sound and if there is a room below, this can be helpful to keep the upstairs sounds upstairs. Additionally, if you have company over, this will help everyone hear the conversation better.

Protection

Nobody likes to slip and fall. When a rug is present it offers a softer surface than the hard floor and can reduce the amount of bumps and bruises caused by falls. Having rug tape below the rug will prevent the rug from slipping when someone steps upon it. It does no good to put a rug down when that causes people to slip when the rug moves out from under their feet when they either step on or off it.

Add Pizazz

A rug can be used as a statement piece for a room or can be coordinated with the décor to highlight a certain piece. The choices available for rugs are almost endless. One could also change the look of a room by simply swapping out the rugs. Rugs can either be subdued or bold. You could choose to have a weekend rug and a weekday if you wanted.

Adds Warmth

Rugs offer the opportunity to step upon something other than the cold floor in the early mornings or cold winter days. This is beneficial for little bare feet, and those who haven’t had their morning coffee. Rugs also offer an insulation for the hard floor which could end up reducing your heating bill dependent upon the size of the rug and the area to cover.
