When you are considering making changes to your house, a good place to look is at local kitchen and bath design centers. You could search the Internet and look through remodeling and home design magazines as well, but a design center offers distinctive advantages. In this post, we will look into those advantages.

Visual Advantage

When you are searching the Internet and looking through magazines, you are looking at pictures of various designs, a 2-D approach. When you are at a design center, you can actually see the items in person, how they fit into the space, and touch them and see them in “use”. They will have samples available for you to take home of the various color schemes, and you can use these to try them out in your space.  You will get a good idea of space requirements and options for complimentary and decorative pieces.

Questions

At design centers, you have the advantage of being able to talk to the staff if you have questions about a particular design or material. They can help you determine if your proposed changes will work within the space you have and if they could see any particular issues that might come up. Granted, what they offer is advice only, but it’s based upon their years of experience and what they’ve seen in the industry.  You can also ask questions of the other customers to get a feel for options they are looking into and any advice they might have. They can share what has worked and not worked for them so that you can avoid some issues when you are making changes. Additionally, you can share your knowledge with them as well.

Design Ideas

When you are walking through the design center, you have the ability to look at all of the décor options. This can show you ideas that you might not have thought of and new material options for you to consider. You can also visually mix and match the various designs that you see in the showroom.  This can give you more ideas for what might work in your space. As you walk around the design center, you can see various color options, material choices, appliances, fixtures, flooring, and more. Then you can take all of this information with you, along with samples and review or reevaluate your space to see if you have new ideas for the changes you want to make.
