You want to makeover your kitchen. You feel that it is time to upgrade to a more modern look. You have the materials and design figured out from a basic standpoint, but you want to make it pop. What are some of the tricks you can use to make this happen?
Cabinet Ideas
One thing to consider is to have glass doors on your cupboards. There are different styles of glass that can be used (stained, frosted, etc.) and this is an ideal way to show off your fine china or decorative pieces. Glass cabinets make a small room seem larger by adding depth. Glass can be used for the whole cabinet cover or as an accent. Also, you can alternate with glass doors and solid doors. One thing to keep in mind with glass doors is the need to remove the fingerprints. Additionally, cooking releases particles into the air (grease, smoke, etc.) which can rest on your glass doors and on the panes. This is something to keep in mind for cleaning.
Accent Piece
If your kitchen is a neutral color, considering adding a splash of color with an accent piece. Maybe you can find some colorful chairs or find a fun backsplash to install. These pieces can be changed out to change up the color (example, the chairs) and you can mix and match colors with ease. Changing these colors is a relatively cheap option. Another way to add color to a room is to use decorative, colorful plates and display them. Appliances (toaster oven, toaster, blender, etc.) can also be used to bring color to the room and are relatively inexpensive.
Functional Decorations
Another idea to consider is to decorate using household items. You can set up a wall that showcases your teacup collection, or your colorful bakeware. These items draw the eye and also have a function. Maybe you have a special platter that has been passed down from generation to generation or plates that just scream “display me”. Almost anything can be used for decoration. Just make sure you consider the space it takes up and the weight if it will be on the wall.
