Everyone talks about making spaces “pop with color,” and how to incorporate color into your life. One thing that has stood the test of time, no matter what current color is en vogue is the classic look of black & white. White offers a clean, fresh look to an area, while black brings a bold statement. There are many ways to incorporate this look into your remodel.

You can have a solid color room with the alternate color as an accent. You can choose either white or black for the main color and then the alternate color for the accent. If black is chosen as the main color, making sure there is ample light in the room would be essential. A white room would look brighter and would require less additional lighting. Especially, if there is an outside light source.

Another choice would be to mix the colors equally in the room.  The colors can be mixed on the wall in any number of patterns. The fixtures can be both colors. In the kitchen, the appliances could be black and the countertops white. In the bathroom, the tub could be black, and the sink is white or visa versa. The color mixture is really up to you.

Yet another choice is to incorporate various shades of black and white into the room. Mapping out the look with the various colors would be essential to make sure that the desired look you are going for is achieved. All of this comes with planning. Something might sound good in your head, but when visually represented you can see that it doesn’t quite work.

When thinking about a black and white room, the potential cleaning needs should be considered. Black items will show lint and dust easier. For a floor or countertop, this could mean wiping items down more often. White furniture will show dirt faster than black furniture, though. The cleaning needs will depend on the amount of traffic within a given area. Additionally, the people that will be using the space will also influence the colors used.

Children have the tendency to spill items. With this in mind, white furniture might not mix well with a glass of juice or sticky fingers. The furniture and other items can also be treated with the appropriate chemicals to make them stain and spill resistant. It will depend on the fabric or material of the item.
