There’s nothing quite like changing out your oven, cooktop, or range for something new. Minus that new smell that it emits when you first turn it on, new cooking choices mean a renewed energy for cooking and baking. There are so many choices to consider when making the change as part of your kitchen remodel. Some questions to answer are:

Would You Like a Regular Oven or Convection?

Everyone is familiar with how a regular oven works. You preheat the oven before you cook your food, to allow the oven to reach the desired temperature to cook your meal safely. You follow the directions for how long the recipe states to cook your food. A convection oven works slightly differently. The oven reaches a higher temperature, so the food cooks in less time. There is a fan in the oven that circulates the air, so the food cooks more evenly and faster. The choice is yours between the appliance you prefer. Cost effectiveness, location, and available space are all factors which can help you determine which way to go. Other choices are whether the appliance will be gas or electric, and for the oven, if the cooktop will be part of the oven or separate. Another choice will be if the oven will be wall mounted, part of the countertop, or a separate appliance.

Cooktop Choices

The separate cooktops choices can be gas or electric. Additionally, the burners can be flush with cooking surface or slightly raised. With a gas stove, the burner elements might be higher and with electric, they could be flush with the surface. The material of the cooktop will determine the ease of cleaning. Burner elements can always have food burned onto them, or the metal pan can become warped or stained from cooking. The metal pans and burner elements can be replaced with ease. It is just important to make sure you buy the elements and pans that are compatible with the brand of cooktop that you purchased. The electric cooktop can also have food burned/cooked onto it, or it can become scratched depending on the material used. It is important to clean either with care to ensure that you get years of use out them. For those that prefer their cooktop attached, they will choose a range.

Range Choices

These types of appliances are not really conducive to being in the wall. So the choices here are part of the counter or a separate appliance. Again choices are electric or gas. An important consideration is whether the appliance is self-cleaning or not. If the appliance is self-cleaning, then it is important that the appliance is placed in an area that is safe for that function. A self-cleaning appliance can reach a temperature of 900° F. Due to this, items that are nearby could be affected by the heat the appliance gives off. Safety is of the utmost importance when using this function. The self-cleaning option is available for ranges and ovens.
