There’s an interesting concept to consider when thinking about your remodel needs. What if there was a way to get the refrigeration you need when and where you need it? You are used to thinking about refrigerators and freezers together and bigger bulky units. Or even just big refrigerators that store all of your cold food. What about having smaller refrigerators placed around your home that take care of specific needs? Their refrigerators are called point of use refrigerators.

Kid’s Fridge

You could place a point of use refrigerator in an area where the children can access it that would allow them to get themselves a drink or an after school snack. The area could be theirs to maintain and clean which would give them the experience of being responsible. Additionally, they could go with you to the grocery store and “buy” the items to restock their fridge.

Wine/Beer Fridge

Another concept could be to have a refrigerator to store your wine or beer. Storing them separately means they will stay cold easier because the refrigerator will not be opened as often. Additionally, it will be easier to see how much is left, and when you need to go out for more.  This could be part of your bar area or located where you normally entertain in your house. Then there would be no need to walk very far to pour another glass.

Water/Sport Drink Fridge

A great idea would be to have a fridge available that holds water bottles or sports drinks. This could be located where you normally workout. Again, this helps you to see when you are getting low and allows you easy access to hydration when you are working out. Having several refrigerators also allows you to set each refrigerator to the specific needs of the contents. Wine might need to be kept at a different temperature than your gym water.

Outdoors

A refrigerator outdoors can have a dual purpose. It can hold all of the items for the “grill master”, and it can also hold beverages for outdoor dinner parties. This helps reduce the amount of foodborne illness because meat would not be sitting out in the sun (or potato salad). You could also have two refrigerators outdoors and have one for the grill master and one for beverages. Again, dual refrigerators are a great way to reduce cross contamination and the amount of foodborne illness.
