The use of color plays an important part in our everyday lives. From deciding which color your suit should be for a meeting, to creating the perfect background for your sales and marketing pages, the importance of color can be so great that it affects our moods. When it comes to choosing which colors to use in your space, the concepts are the same.  How does the importance of color affect your space?

Making A Statement

Using a bold color choice or pattern for your newly remodeled room can make a statement. You can either choose a bright color or an eye-catching pattern/color combination to catch other’s attention. Maybe you received a painting or piece of furniture that you would like to be your statement piece for the room. You can choose colors to use that will highlight the piece and draw other’s eyes to it.

Size

Using certain colors in your space, along with how you layout the room, can affect the perceived size of the room. Using lighter colors in smaller spaces will give the room a larger feel. Bright colors can also make the room appear larger. White and various similar shades to white can make a room look larger, especially if the room is bathed in light as well. Another trick is to paint the door, trim, and ceiling the same color because it will create a continuous look to the room.

Color Choices

One problem that can happen when you are choosing colors is to have too many in the same space. If you have too many color choices in the same space, it can be distracting. It might also make the room look smaller than it is. It is best to figure out a color scheme for the room and consider the choices for the furniture, walls, and decorative items at the same time. This way you can see the varying colors and patterns for the room as a whole.

Color Scheme

When considering the color for the room, you can determine if you will use one color, two colors, or a group of complementary colors that will work together to become your desired look. One way to accomplish this is to use analogous colors. These are colors that are near or next to each other on the color wheel. Since they are similar, the colors will work well together. Another choice is to use a monochromatic color scheme. This is different shades, tints, or tones of a single color. A color wheel can give you the options that you can work with. If you are using three colors, then you can use a triad color scheme. This means that the colors you choose are all equal distance between each other on the color wheel. The room will have a pop of color with no one color being dominant.
